James Hoban is the little known Irishman who was the architect of The White House (beating Thomas Jefferson in an architectural competition to find the best design). He designed many other important buildings in his adopted country, the young United States of America. We seek to honor this little known Irishman by naming our restaurant & bar after him. In Ireland the bar, whether it is a bustling Dublin one or a humble village one, is a focal point where the people meet as in the piazza of a continental European town. They meet to converse with each other, to entertain each other, to share a meal with each other, to celebrate some happy event and even to give support to each other in times of trouble. The young and the old will go to the same bars to meet their friends and strangers in town will go to the local bar to meet new friends. So the Irish bar is a vital place. We have endeavored to bring to Washington a flavor of today's Ireland with a look that presents our most cherished traditional aspects and also allows modern Ireland to speak. Our menu naturally features many favorite traditional dishes but also reflects contemporary Ireland with its strong European culinary influences. What the Irish value most in their hospitality is its friendliness. We strive above all to provide this ingredient so that you, our customer, can experience true Irish hospitality. If our efforts add in any small measure to the joy and pleasure of life in this great city, then we will have been true to the spirit of James Hoban.

Welcome,
